The Surfing Madonna is a glass mosaic by Mark Patterson. The Surfing Madonna Oceans Project is a 501c3 nonprofit based in Encinitas, California and was officially formed in 2013 by Robert Nichols and Mark Patterson (artist of the Surfing Madonna mosaic). The specific purpose for forming the nonprofit was to conserve, maintain and promote the public display of art and to promote environmental conservation efforts. Our group puts on Special Needs Surf Camps every summer and serve several hundred kids and their families to have an amazing time at the beach.
The permanent home for the Surfing Madonna Mosaic is on the wall of Leucadia Pizzeria on Encinitas Blvd and Highway 101, in Surfing gMadonna Park.
The park is complete with a Little Free Library, flowing fountains, local native plants, eco-grass for water conservation, a bench, fun sea sculptures, sidewalk for wheelchairs leading to the mosaic, engraved bricks and steps and of course, the Lady of Guadalupe herself…on a surfboar...
